Visit the New Jersey Division of Elections' voter registration hub to get started. To vote in the primaries, you will need to affiliate with a political party. The deadline to vote in this year's primaries is Tuesday, May 12.
You can apply to vote by mail here. The deadline to submit your VBM application online or by mail is Tuesday, May 26. You can also apply to vote by mail at your county's Board of Elections until 3:00 PM on Monday, June 1.

Nope. You can hand-deliver it to a county ballot drop box or to your county's Board of Elections. You will be directed to the nearest county drop box if you deliver your VBM to any polling location, Election Day or otherwise.
Yes! As long as you fill out the "bearer" sections on the outer envelopes of the ballots you are delivering, you can submit up to three ballots of non-family members and up to five ballots of people living in your household. If you are hand-delivering to your county's Board of Elections, you will be asked to provide ID and sign a register of ballot bearers.
Yes, if they are unable to complete the ballot themselves. You will need to fill out the official "assistor certificate," located on the ballot's inside envelope.

VBM ballots are used to cast actual votes. Sample ballots provide you with Election Day information, including what the voting machine display will look like. Both are officially marked as either VBM or a sample Election-Day ballot.
There will be early voting for this year's New Jersey primary election from Tuesday, May 26 through Sunday, May 31, 2026. Find your closest early voting county location here. Polls will be open from 10 AM - 8 PM Tuesday through Saturday and 10 AM - 6 PM on Sunday.

The polls officially close at 8 PM on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. If you are voting on Election Day and in line by 8 PM, you can vote.
If you are a VBM voter hand-delivering your ballot, it must be dropped off at a ballot drop box by 8 PM on June 2 or at your county's Board of Elections by close-of-business that same day. Please do not mail your ballot via the U.S. Postal Service this year.
