When choosing races to focus on, Door-to-Door Democracy always looks for where we can make the greatest impact. This year's marquee race — in New Jersey's 7th Congressional District — is tailor-made for our group. We have a ground-level understanding of this district. Many of us live or work here. These are our communities. We count its voters among our friends and neighbors.
We also know that the CD-7 race is one of THE most consequential midterm contests in the country — one with both tremendous urgency and opportunity. Traditionally a Republican stronghold, CD-7 is now the only swing district in the state of New Jersey. In 2024, Republican Tom Kean, Jr. defeated his Democratic challenger, Sue Altman, by 5.3 percentage points. A year later, this district voted for Democrat Mikie Sherrill over Republican Jack Ciattarelli by two percentage points - a swing of just over seven percentage points!
BOTTOM LINE: The road to Congress in 2026 goes straight through this rural and suburban swath of north-central New Jersey towns. And we know just how existentially important it is that the Democrats take back Congress this fall. It is literally the difference between the restoration of American democracy and the continuation of American neo-fascism for the foreseeable future.
Want to make a real and tangible difference for democracy this year? Join us as we work to get out the vote for our endorsed candidate in the spring and our selected candidate in the summer and fall.

In March 2026, the trustees of Door-to-Door Democracy announced our endorsement of Rebecca Bennett as our candidate of choice for Congress in New Jersey's 7th Congressional District. Here's why we believe Rebecca is the best positioned — among a stellar, formidable group of Democratic candidates — to successfully take on and defeat Tom Kean, Jr. in the fall:
• Rebecca fits the 7th district like a glove. Studies have shown that military service can boost a candidate's chances in swing districts like CD-7 by roughly five percentage points. In a district that comfortably went for Kean then swung to fellow military veteran Mikie Sherrill in the New Jersey gubernatorial contest just twelve short months later, Rebecca's well-regarded military experience could be the difference between a close loss and flipping the seat blue.
• Rebecca is tested under fire and built for this harrowing moment we find ourselves in. America is facing staggering challenges on multiple national and international fronts, and the voters of NJ-7 deserve a representative who has actually operated under intense pressure.
As a U.S. Navy pilot — only the 18th female test pilot in the history of the Navy — Rebecca has made life-and-death decisions in the cockpit. She understands what it means to protect the people counting on you, to remain steady and steadfast, and to never quit until you successfully and safely complete the mission.
Rebecca has a breadth of policy knowledge, gained not just from her overseas experience in the armed forces, but also from her work as a health care leader and innovator working to advance greater access to care. She is also a mom of two facing the same challenges we all face, trying to make a better life and world for our children; she understands what we are going through because she and her family are going through them too.
Rebecca has the fundraising skills to stand toe-to-toe with a well-financed, well-known incumbent. Rebecca has already raised over two million dollars (and counting) in this campaign, the majority of which come from small-dollar donations and regular working folks.
The eventual nominee will need every bit of this financial and grassroots support and more when going up against the likes of Tom Kean, Jr., a man for whom money is no object and name recognition was a given from the day he was born.
Rebecca doesn’t boast connections to political machines or dynasties like the incumbent congressman she is seeking to challenge – she comes from hard work, service, and marrow-deep commitment to country and community.
Battle-tested, fierce, unwavering, knowledgeable, and pragmatic, Rebecca Bennett is a fighter — and brings an ideal combination of qualities and qualifications to the race she hopes to win and the district she seeks to lead in Congress.
We're in good company. The Democratic organizations from four of the six counties that help comprise New Jersey's 7th congressional district — representing over 80% of the CD-7 primary electorate — have endorsed Rebecca as well. Read about these endorsements below:
