Friends, it's been an especially joyous and heartening week for "we the people" and the democracy we cherish.
In a 7-2 decision earlier this week, the U.S. Supreme Court slammed the door on the Trump Administration's attempts to rig the midterm elections by weaponizing the U.S. Postal Service against eligible voters in blue states.
Meanwhile, as the days tick down to the November 3 deadline, the Democrats have opened up an eight-point lead over the Republicans in a recent New York Times/Siena University poll — indicating deep dissatisfaction with the GOP's authoritarian approach to governance and a growing desire to embrace "government by the people, for the people" once again.
While these are encouraging signs, we at Door-to-Door Democracy understand that the only polls that count come straight from the ballot box. We also know that Trump will never stop trying to destroy our democracy to enrich himself and his cronies — and to consolidate his power permanently.
BOTTOM LINE: We don't have the luxury to relax.
It's not time to ease up on the gas. It's full speed ahead — pedal to the metal.
During this especially consequential election season, we'll be working every day with our friends and partners to empower the civic life of our communities, strengthen representative democracy here in New Jersey, and restore checks and balances in the halls of Congress this November.
